Here's an easy DIY Paper Lantern craft that you can make with your kids this school holiday term break!
You’ll need:
Color paper or Scrapbooking pattern paper
Scissors or Pen Knife
Stapler
Glue or Double-sided Tape
Hole Puncher (Optional)
String or Ribbon (Optional)
Glitter or sequins, if desired to decorate your lantern (Optional)

Here's a quick guide of making the paper lantern.
Steps:
1. Print out the free templates of the outer and inner layer in 100% on A4 size color paper. You may also reduce and print on a A5 size paper for smaller lantern.

Follow the Steps in detail below:
1. Print out the free templates of the outer and inner layer in 100% on A4 size color paper. You may also reduce and print on a A5 size paper for smaller lantern.
2. Fill in and color the cherry blossom flowers of the outer layer.
3. Use a pen knife and cut the strip of lines on the outer layer sheet.
4. Cut the inner layer sheet to size. Keep the left over strip for later.
5. Glue each outer layer and inner layer with glue or double-sided tapes.
6. Roll and join each outer and inner layer into a cylinder shape.
7. Combine both outer and inner layer cylinder by inserting the inner layer into the outer layer.
8. Align the top and use a stapler to staple the 2 sheets together.
9. Turn the lantern around.
10. Push down the outer layer and align the 2 sheets.
11. Staple the 2 pieces together and set aside.
12. Take the left over inner sheet and cut out the bottom strip.
13. Assemble time! Hold 1 end of the inner strip, align at the top and staple with the lantern body together.
14. Repeat and staple the other end of the handle.
15. And the paper lantern is done!
TIPS!
For kids, we advise to use a pair of scissors for this craft. Please supervise your child when handling the scissors. Follow the steps below.
Fold the outer layer paper in half lengthwise.
Cut on the marked lines up.
Then unfold the paper and glue into cylinder shape.
Repeat from Step 7 onwards as stated above and you will have the paper lantern as shown!
Make as many paper lanterns as you wish and display them around your home this Mid-Autumn Festival.
